A politician is at once an individual, a performer of a social role, a holder of power, and an object of public expectations. He must constantly move between two spheres: on one side stands his private “self” — his feelings, values, doubts, and fears; on the other stands the political role assigned to him by society, his party, the state, and the surrounding environment. A profound loss for Georgian scholarship and for our society — the renowned mathematician Vladimir Baladze has passed away. He was a professor at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, a Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, a distinguished member of the Georgian school of mathematics and a noted researcher in geometric topology. His contribution to the development of Georgian scholarship and education is immense. I extend my condolences to his family, relatives, colleagues and many students. May the Lord grant his soul the Kingdom of Heaven.
