Georgia’s Constitution, adopted on 24 August 1995, is the legal and political foundation of our state. It defines the principles governing the organisation of state authority, enshrines fundamental human rights and freedoms, and creates a common legal framework within which the state and society function.
The Constitution is not merely a document possessing supreme legal force — it is the fundamental social compact between the state and its citizens. Its strength is manifested not only in its text, but also in universal respect for it, its protection, and its daily implementation.
For me, as a lawyer, this day is particularly important. In 2016–2017, I had the honour and privilege, in my capacity as a member of the State Constitutional Commission, to participate in the fundamental revision of the Constitution of Georgia and in drafting its new version. As part of the Commission’s work, the Constitutional Law of Georgia on the Autonomous Republic of Adjara was also drafted and subsequently adopted — a document of paramount legal and state significance for our region. This was an important professional experience and, at the same time, a great responsibility before the country, our region, and future generations.
On Constitution Day, I congratulate every citizen of Georgia!
